Swan Valley Retired Teachers

ABOUT

The Swan Valley Retired Teachers chapter was established in 1990 with 14 members and received approval for its constitution from RTAM, adopting it on September 13, 1990 at its inaugural meeting. We are the home chapter of the late John Kastrukoff, who saw a need for an organization to represent the welfare of retired teachers in Manitoba. Through his vision and effort and in collaboration with some of his retired teacher colleagues, the Retired Teachers Association of Manitoba was created. Mr. Kastrukoff served as the first president of RTAM.

One of the highlights was the hosting of the RTAM AGM in 2017.

We have approximately 60 retired colleagues residing in our area. About one third are active in our chapter, another third who have not yet joined and a third who have limitations that make it difficult or not possible to participate in our activities and meetings. Through Chapter Enhancement and Wellness grants from RTAM we try to serve all of our colleagues.

We meet every other month and average 25 members.

On behalf of our chapter we send messages of condolence to families of our members or spouses that have passed away as well as get well messages to colleagues with health challenges.

In addition to our members volunteering in our various communities continue our community involvement with Meals on Wheels, Remembrance Day Service, judging Remembrance Day poems and posters and providing prize money for student exhibits at the Northwest Roundup and Fair. We participate in the annual Swan Valley School Division Retirement Banquet in June.

As a chapter we actively promote and support the objectives of RTAM and ACER-CART.
