Treaty 1 Territory, Métis Homeland, Winnipeg, MB - Manitoba Liberal MLA for Tyndall Park, Cindy Lamoureux, introduced a bill in the Manitoba Legislature today that would bring the voice of retired teachers to the Teachers Retirement Allowance Fund Board (TRAF). This legislation is long overdue and was previously brought forward twice by the Progressive conservatives when they were in opposition in 2006 and 2007, including by the current Premier herself, Heather Stefanson.

“This bill legislates a spot for a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Manitoba to join representatives from the Manitoba Teachers’ Society and those appointed by the Provincial Government on the TRAF Board,” said Lamoureux. “One of the members would be dedicated to a retired teacher as nominated by the Retired Teachers Association of Manitoba (RTAM). The fact that retired teachers don’t have a legislated spot on this board is a major gap in representation on the board and is long overdue.” Manitoba Liberals hope to have support from all parties to get this legislation passed as soon as possible.
