Lifestyles for Seniors

  • Seniors Canada On-Line - is a trusted bilingual web site sponsored by the Canadian government with much information of use to seniors. Search by subject or by major life changes. You can also vary the print size to suit you.
  • Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS): Get an overview of Canada's retirement income system and find out what's in it for you.
  • Wired Seniors - strives to provide practical information relative to senior lifestyles -- Many links to sites of interest to the over 50 age group.
  • Manitoba Seniors' and Healthy Aging Secretariat - is a central point of contact for seniors, their families, and organizations. It also provides copies of its publications and valuable links to other seniors' websites.
  • Young Retired – is a website with information about retirement planning, travel, fitness and volunteer opportunities. It contains many links to sites of interest to retirees.
  • Nicenet - National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly - Very good site dealing with issues of the elderly. (Highly recommended by our Wellness Chair - Peggy Prendergast)


Continuing Education

  • Creative Retirement Manitoba- A highly acclaimed guide for retirees to
    Manitoban, Canadian and global information and services.
  • Virtual Museum Of Canada - A great site full of interesting learning opportunities, it has a range of beautifully presented topics for personal study and enjoyment.
  • Senior Centre Without Walls through A & O - Support Services for Older Adults offers free educational and recreational programs over the phone. The program reaches out to socially isolated older adults 55+ living in Manitoba. Individuals and groups are welcome. There is no cost to register and participants call into a toll-free number. We can also call participants into the line that are unable to do so themselves. Learn more



  • Canadian Health Network - a national, non-profit, bilingual web-based health information service to help Canadians find the information they're looking for on how to stay healthy and prevent disease.
  • Health Canada - Addresses health topics including cancer, hepatitis,
    natural health products, STDs, smoking, and food and nutrition.
  • Women's Health Matters - Evidence-based and updated information on women's health and news, and research findings on women's diseases and lifestyle trends.
  • Manitoba Healthy Living - A good provincial source of topics of interest and events.



  • Travel Guild - Several long-stay and tour opportunities described here.
  • Travel Canada - Have you visited our country? This is the official site of the Canadian Tourism Commission.
  • Work Overseas - The Canadian Bureau for International Education has some interesting opportunities for teachers and principals.


Retirement is a time of transitions. Throughout your career you belonged to the Manitoba Teachers’ Society (MTS), but upon retirement you are no longer a member. The Retired Teachers’ Association of Manitoba (RTAM) exists to serve retired teachers. We invite you to join the growing number of RTAM members and enjoy the benefits of belonging.
