Board Bios

Guy Hansen
Winnipeg, Manitoba

  • 30 years teaching in Thompson, mostly Physics. Sometimes Department Head.

  • Supported labour, was the representative of the Thompson Teachers on the Thompson Labour Council for nearly 20 years. Recently a volunteer for my new MLA Wab Kinew.  I am a social democrat.

  • Board of the Thompson Co-op Gas Bar for over a decade.

  • Board of Heritage North Museum for about 5 years.

  • Managed the Job Creation/Training department of the Thompson Recycle Centre, mostly serving northern aboriginals with few work skills. About 10 years. My workers usually finished their 100 day program, often it was extended.  I often see them in Winnipeg. It was a great job.

  • Volunteer, Northern Restorative Justice

  • Public Relations member, chair and co-chair about 5 years, member of Political Advocacy for the same period. Initiated our “Night at the Leg” where we strengthened relationships with Manitoba MLA’s, for 2 years. There were scheduling issues last year. With our new government in place it is essential that we re-ignite this bit of relationship building.

I enjoyed both committees immensely. It was worthwhile. I now live at Setting Lake, Thompson, summers, spend the winter with my wife Faye, in Winnipeg.

Retirement is a time of transitions. Throughout your career you belonged to the Manitoba Teachers’ Society (MTS), but upon retirement you are no longer a member. The Retired Teachers’ Association of Manitoba (RTAM) exists to serve retired teachers. We invite you to join the growing number of RTAM members and enjoy the benefits of belonging.
