Bill Cann, Director

I retired as a public school educator in June 2004. I started my teaching career at Gordon Bell High School in September 1973 as a teacher librarian. I joined the St. James-Assiniboia School Division the following year, serving as a teacher librarian, teacher, library coordinator, vice principal and principal over the next 35 years. Upon retiring, I continued working part time for the University of Winnipeg as a lecturer and Faculty of Education Supervisor and volunteering at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

During my teaching career, my volunteer service with professional organizations included:
Manitoba Education and Training;
Principals and Vice Principals Certification Committee, 1988-1989
Remembrance Day Teachers’ Guide Committee, 1984-1985
St. James-Assiniboia School Division;
Local Association Council Rep, 1972-1976
Council of School Leaders – St. James-Assiniboia Chapter Executive, 1994-2004
Council of School Leaders – Provincial Executive, 1999-2004
Manitoba School Library Association President, 1979-1981

I have served the Retired Teachers Association of Manitoba in the following capacities;
Vice President and Acer-Carte delegate.2016-2017
Board Member 2007-2011
Public Relations Committee 2015-2019
Pension Committee 2007-2012, 2018-2019
St. James-Assiniboia RTAM Chapter Executive 2007-2011

I look forward to renewing my service on the RTAM Board of Directors during 2019-2020.
