Student Awards

We all support the value of education.

Every year, the Retired Teachers’ Association of Manitoba (RTAM) awards four post-secondary student awards of $1,000 each to relatives of RTAM members to help them realize their educational goals.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an RTAM Student Award, students must be:

  1. a relative of an RTAM member (child, grandchild, niece or nephew) living in Canada or the United States
  2. involved in school and community activities
  3. a Grade 12 graduate
  4. entering their first year of a post-secondary education program (university or college)

If you have a relative who is eligible, please share the Student Award application with them.

Distribution and Funding

Each year, RTAM’s Student Awards Committee selects four winning students to support the costs of their postsecondary schooling. Where possible, we will make efforts to distribute the awards geographically throughout the province.

RTAM established a permanent RTAM Endowment Fund with the Winnipeg Foundation in 2013. The initial contribution was $50,000, with ongoing contributions and interest earned intended as a primary source of income for the awards.

Leave a Legacy

Leave a legacy of learning! Consider donating to the RTAM Endowment Fund through the Winnipeg Foundation, as each gift adds in perpetuity to the fund.

You can consider one of the following three options:

  • a bequest in your will
  • an ‘In memoriam’ gift when a loved one passes away
  • annual charitable giving to offset your income tax

To make a gift, visit the Winnipeg Foundation website and type in ‘RTAM’ in the ‘Search for fund’ box. Or, contact the Winnipeg Foundation directly and ask for the Student Awards Team.

Thank you to all of our members who have contributed so far. You’ve allowed us to support the future success of our award winners!
