Executive Committee Updates: November 2024
November 1, 2024
November updates and changes...
The month of November brings the last colour changes to trees before they drop their final leaves and the temperature changes from cool to chilly. We've been lucky the last few years if memory serves, we haven't had snow until later in the season. The first snow in December is a sign of the changing times, I remember many Halloweens with snow on the ground and Novembers of past years where the shovels were out with the boots and gloves.
November brings many changes for RTAM as well. The most important of which is our new date for the RTAM Annual General Meeting. The Board felt it was in our best interest to move the date to improve on our financial reporting to members. We had been sharing our audit with membership 11 months after the year end and we wanted to move it within 6 months of year end to be in line with recommendations from our accountants and the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA).
This year the AGM is online.
There is no in person requirement forcing people to drive in or secure hotels for the meeting. Instead, we have contracted a partner to help us deliver an online AGM which we hope engages all Manitobans, no matter where they live our Province. This also allows our members who are travelling or living outside Manitoba to attend and feel as though they are being included as equals as well.
The information page for this years AGM is: https://www.rtam.mb.ca/en/about/agm/
Get Quorum is the company we have contracted to run the AGM. Please look for a registration email coming from their company starting Friday November 1st and Monday November 4th. If you haven't received an email by November 8th, please reach out to the RTAM office by phone (204) 889-3660 or by email at office@rtam.mb.ca.
Here are some other updates from the Executive Committee:
- RTAM was able to expand their pre-retirement seminars to SAGE day this year. Current and past Directors from the RTAM Board were able to attend SAGE presentations at McMaster House, with MSSTA, VTAM, and EFM. We hope to expand this program even further next year as this year was a welcome environment and great success!
- Gabe Mercier (President) was able to represent RTAM at two conferences/meetings with the Pneumococcal Consortium Members. The goals of the group are to create awareness around Respiratory Illness Prevention through immunization; look at preventions because of the high cost of hospitalization; vaccination age friendly; the population being educated on vaccination.
- Linda Blair (Past President) was able to represent RTAM at the Canadian Pension Plan Investments presentation in mid-October. As local partners of the CPPI, RTAM helps promote and raise awareness for their event each year. This years event had more than 100 attendees and is slowly growing every two years.
- Jayesh Maniar (Vice President) and Linda Blair (Past President) were able to attend the Tripwire 15th anniversary evening at the end of October. RTAM was on site to show support for our partners. Tripwire has been commissioned to create a video for RTAM member and potential new retirees looking to join our organization telling the history of "who we are and what we do".
We hope to announce some new partnerships and services next month, which will lead to new member experiences throughout Manitoba. Please come back and visit us in December for more news and updates.
Sincerely,
The Executive Committee
Gabe Mercier - President
Jayesh Maniar - Vice President
Jocelyne Fraser - Treasurer
Sean Seywright - Non Voting Secretary and Executive Director
Linda Blair - Past President, Committee Chair
