Helene Beauchemin, Director
Winnipeg, Manitoba

I thank you for this nomination to become a Director on the Retired Teachers’ Association of Manitoba Board.

My work experience in the areas of both health and education brings pertinent skills to this position. Upon graduation I worked as a clinical dietitian in a Diabetes Education Clinic. This was then followed by a management position in health care where I designed and managed training programs and quality assurance programs across Western Canada. My career also took me to Lusaka, Zambia, Africa where I taught Community Nutrition. My teaching position in the Louis Riel School Division provided me with experience in a French Immersion setting and experience on the Louis Riel Teachers’ Association Council.

My pertinent education consists of: a Bachelor of Home Economics (Nutrition), a Dietetic Internship, a Business Development Certificate, a Master’s in Health Education and lastly a Bachelor of Education with a focus on Middle Years.

My volunteer experiences are varied. A few past positions include: council member of the Louis Riel Teachers’ Association, member of the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg, member of the United Way of Winnipeg and president and finance chair of the College of Dietitians of Manitoba. Current volunteer positions include: member of the WRHA Local Health Involvement Group for St. Boniface, volunteer at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and a member of the Public Relations committee of RTAM.

Other interests which bring joy to my life are my family, walking my canine pal, entertaining friends and family at our cottage, piano and guitar playing, singing, family genealogy work, a host of sports such as tennis, cycling and kayaking, travelling (most recently to China and India) and last but not least, reading and journaling.

I look forward to learning more about our RTAM organization from an inside perspective. Throughout my life and now into retirement, one of my life goals has been to serve my community. As a Director on the RTAM Board, I relish the thought of working within a team environment with my fellow retired colleagues to serve our retired teacher community.
