Judy Olmstead, Treasurer
Brandon, Manitoba

I began teaching in Thompson in 1971.  I also worked as a Faculty Advisor for education students for Brandon University, and Inter-University of the North for many years.  In 1996, we moved to Brandon.  I taught kindergarten to grade 10 in a one-room school, where I managed all the jobs required to run a school, from budgeting, to librarian, to principal.  I retired in 2007 and joined Westman Retired Educators' Association.  I served as secretary for four years, and am currently vice-president.

While raising three children, I was an active volunteer as Head Leader for the local 4-H club and teacher of several projects.  I was Brown Owl for the Brownie pack and chairperson of the Thompson Festival of the Arts.  I also served as the northern representative on the provincial 4-H and Arts Festival boards.  I organized major fundraising projects for my church and more recently, banquets for my curling club.

I have served as secretary on the RTAM Board of Directors for the past three years, and last year I chaired the Ad Hoc committee for the Volunteer Survey.  I also assist with photography at RTAM events for the KIT magazine.  This year, I am treasurer for the RTAM Board, chair of the Benefits committee and a member of the Wellness committee.

I enjoy singing, lawn bowling, gardening, photography and curling.  I also enjoy spending time with my grandchildren.

Retirement is a time of transitions. Throughout your career you belonged to the Manitoba Teachers’ Society (MTS), but upon retirement you are no longer a member. The Retired Teachers’ Association of Manitoba (RTAM) exists to serve retired teachers. We invite you to join the growing number of RTAM members and enjoy the benefits of belonging.
